SUMMARY
We have been fortunate to work with Berkeley Group on several projects and have developed a strong working relationship with their project delivery teams.
Berkeley Group builds homes and neighbourhoods across London and the South of England and specialises in brownfield regeneration, reviving underused land to create unique, sustainable places where communities can thrive and enjoy an exceptional quality of life.
Poplar Riverside offers a collection of new riverside apartments with their own private outdoor space and access to a beautifully landscaped 2.5-acre riverside park with community spaces which can be enjoyed by both residents and the public.
CHALLENGES
We are currently supporting Berkeley Group and their partners with four blocks on this development. As we near completion of the first two blocks we are already collaborating with our client and other trades to plan our approach for the next two blocks.
Sites of this size require our team to be on hand to adapt the scaffold structures as the construction of each block progresses. It is important that the scaffolding enables trades to move smoothly between blocks at various stages of development to facilitate efficient workflow.
SOLUTION
Our progressive external and internal scaffolding enables the construction of the external walls and cladding and the internal wall treatments and fixtures.
The variety and extent of our scaffolding solutions and our highly experienced team means that we can react promptly to variations, ensuring that our delivery partners can adhere to time critical programmes.
To ensure that materials and equipment can continue to be fed to floor levels whilst the main scaffold is under construction, we installed hoist access using beamed hoist tower scaffolds.
The main scaffolding is in effect an extension of the building. It provides a fully boarded platform so that the existing KGUARD® edge protection can be removed. This allows for the safe installation of time saving components such as the Metsec Steel Framing System that provides a carrier for insulation, exterior cladding and interior boarding. We are also using Ancon ties to tie the scaffolding to the building at floor levels.
We adapt our scaffolding as the external brickwork goes up, building the scaffold at floor levels and conducting two adaptions; one fully boarded level at handrail height and one drop down adaption 500mm below the main floor scaffold. All scaffolding and adaptions incorporate adjustable transoms to create safe boarded platforms.
CONCLUSION
We look forward to working with Berkeley Group on future schemes as part of their responsible and constructive supply chain in line with their Vision 2030 roadmap. We are proud to be considered a suitable supply partner that meets Berkeley Group’s criteria for suppliers that are productive, practical, sustainable, ethical and dependable.
